Vodafone announces 3G services

On the heels of Tata DoComo and Bharti Airtel announcing their plans for launching 3G services in India, Vodafone has also announced it’s plans for launching the high speed mobile broadband services in India. 

Vodafone has the 3G spectrum in 10 telecom circles- Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, UP (E), Gujarat and West Bengal.

“The introduction of 3G technology will be the catalyst for data revolution in India. Vodafone has been successful in delivering 3G services to many developed and emerging markets and we will be utilizing our global expertise to offer an enhanced 3G experience to our customers in India”, says Marten Pieters, Managing Director, Vodafone Essar Ltd.

The 3G services from Vodafone will be be commercially available sometime in the first quarter of 2011, with the rollout happening one by one, but with plans to cover all cities with 3G network very quickly. Users will be able to subscribe to 3G services on their 3G capable mobile phones as well as 3G capable USB wireless broadband data sticks.

Vodafone is also in talks with other mobile service providers for 3G roaming agreements, to be able to offer a pan-India 3G footprint for it’s customers.
