Google did this with the Gmail app recently. And now, the You Tube app for the Android platform has been updated and upgraded to a standalone app.
The latest update makes the You Tube app available on Android Market as a standalone app. However, the catch here is that only users with Android 2.2 (aka Froyo) loaded on their phones will get this update.
The new version lets users watch videos on both the portrait and landscape modes, view video comments, post a comment as well as share a video via the social networking sites. The interface has also been tweaked with enhanced playback controls.
Google had updated the Gmail app in a similar fashion recently, but that was also for Android 2.2 phones only. Users of Android 2.1 and below will not get this particular update, till the time the handset manufacturer pushes the Froyo upgrade to the phones.
