After completely quashing the rumors that Facebook will be launching it’s own phone, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that the application for Android phones has been updated to include the Places feature.
This will allow Android users to broadcast their current location to all those who are in their friend list.
The update for the Android app brings the platform on par with the iPhone app, since people had criticized the Android app for being two steps behind.
“Traditionally the Android app has always been a little bit behind,” Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said. “We didn’t have a full team working on it, but now we’re back on track.”
Also announced was the Places Deals. This allows users to get notifications about shopping offers and deals in the area, the moment they sign in. But this feature is available in the U.S. only with no concrete confirmation on when or even if this feature will be available in Europe.
On the issue of the rumors of the Facebook phone, Zuckerberg said that Facebook is not building any phone, but want their app to be available on every platform with the intention of “making everything social”.
(THERE AIN’T NO FACEBOOK PHONE! Some people, in the online, semi-online and completely offline world were extremely hyper that a FB phone was coming, and that it’ll be a ‘major development’. Now I can proudly say- Told Ya!)
